Acted For Peace

Acted for Peace is a non-governmental non profit non political organization (NGO) committed to fostering peace, promoting mental health, enhancing education, advocating for social justice, managing disasters, and advancing sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Somalia.

Born from the urgent need to address the challenges faced by communities in post-conflict recovery, Acted for Peace believes in the power of collective action, resilience, and community empowerment.

With our headquarters in Nairobi and operational base in Mogadishu, we are strategically positioned to address the multifaceted challenges facing Somali communities.

Background

Acted for Peace is a non-profit, non-political, and humanitarian peacebuilding organization founded in 2018 with the core mission of promoting social cohesion, conflict resolution, and sustainable development across Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region. The organization was born out of a growing need to respond to the challenges facing vulnerable communities affected by violent conflict, displacement, poverty, and weak governance structures.

Acted for Peace was initiated by local peace practitioners, youth leaders, and community development actors who were committed to advancing peace, dignity, and opportunity in a region long plagued by instability. The founding members recognized that peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, opportunities, and inclusive governance.
From its humble beginnings, Acted for Peace has grown to become a trusted voice in grassroots peacebuilding and social development. The organization’s approach is rooted in community-led initiatives, inclusive dialogue, and local ownership—ensuring that peace and development efforts reflect the aspirations and realities of the communities themselves.

Acted for Peace focuses on key thematic areas: including:

  • Peace, security, and Livelihood
  • Education
  • Climate change and biodervisity
  • Human rights, Gender and democracy

Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya , with operational presence in Gedo region, Mogadishu, and Kismayo, Acted for Peace continues to expand its work through strong partnerships with communities, civil society, and national and international donors.

Acted for Peace believes in transforming conflict into opportunities for growth, healing, and inclusive progress. The organization works tirelessly to ensure that peace is built not just in policy rooms but in the hearts and lives of people.
