Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
Acted for Peace recognizes that mental health is a critical, yet often neglected, component of individual and community well-being in Somalia. Years of conflict, displacement, poverty, and trauma have severely affected the psychological health of many, particularly vulnerable groups such as women, children, youth, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Program aims to respond to these urgent needs by providing compassionate care, psychosocial support, and access to professional mental health services.,
Key Initiatives
Support to Al-Ihsan Psychiatric Hospital in Mogadishu
Acted for Peace works closely with Al-Ihsan Mental Hospital, one of the few psychiatric facilities in Somalia, which currently hosts nearly 60 patients,We support the hospital by providing paraprofessional mental health counselors, offering non-clinical care and emotional support to patients. However, due to limited resources, the hospital urgently needs more help, including funding for medication, food, clothing, rent, security, and cleaning services.
Training of Mental Health Paraprofessionals
To build long-term community-based care, Acted for Peace is implementing a 4-month training program for 12 mental health paraprofessionals, followed by one year of practical service at Al-Ihsan Hospital. These youth trainees will support mental health patients while gaining valuable experience and increasing the mental health workforce in the region.
